Katie and Velinda had and “all in” romance from the get-go. Their relationship was tested very early on due to a lot of outside factors that would make many crumble. These gals knew they could weather any storm together, and have. This wedding has a very special place in my heart. When I was going through a rough patch of my own, they opened their beautiful home to me. They (and their dogs Milo and Atticus) quickly became my family. Helping achieve their backyard wedding dreams was the least I could do.
The best thing about designing for two brides is two bouquets! Velinda wanted a more Spanish vibe, while Katie’s taste run a bit more country. Sunflowers were non-negotiable. Getting to make two very different yet complimentary bouquets brings me so much joy.
They were on a tight budget and wanted an intimate gathering at home surrounded by close friends and family. They have good friends and a lot of talent so several things were built for them. We covered a wall in Wally Gro Pockets and planted it up with succulents, as well as the custom made bar. I had some wooden boxes left over so we planted those up and filled in with loose blooms. Friends helped build benches and tables. You can read all about it on Emily Henderson’s Blog, for whom Velinda works.
I had a very hard time editing these stunning photos from The Dream Choice. Since I was also a guest I don’t really have to. :) It was a beautiful, emotional, joyous occasion that I’ll forever be grateful to be a part of.
